Municipality ministry launches pet import permits for Hayya cardholders

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality launched the service of issuing veterinary health certificates and pet import permits for Hayya card holders.

Dogs and cats have to be accompanied by a valid import permit, no later than 30 days prior to the animal's arrival in Qatar. It added that these pets must be equipped with an electronic/microchip.

The Municipality also clarified that large and dangerous breeds of dogs require permission from the Ministry of Interior. It added that visitors must take their pets when returning to their country.

The requirement to obtain an import permit:

  1. Dogs and cats must be over 7 months old
  2. Your dogs or cats should be vaccinated against rabies.
  3. Cats should be triple vaccinated.
  4. The entry of the animal is allowed during the period of validity of the vaccination.
  5. Dogs should be vaccinated against Canine distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis C and Leptospira.
  6. Blood test for rabies immune antibodies (RSNT).
  7. The pet must wait for 90 days from the date of taking the blood sample before travelling.

Required documents:

  1. A copy of the vaccination certificate or card.
  2. A copy of the blood test result.

Steps to apply for the permit:

  1. Log into the ministry's website (https://animalcert.mme.gov.qa/ANIMAL_SYSTEM/MainPage.aspx) then enter the date of birth and Hayya card number, then activating the verification code (OTP)
  2. Agree to the terms and conditions.
  3. Fill out the data in the form, submit the application, and choose the type of service (import or export cats or dogs)
  4. Receive the system messages on the applicant's registered email address.
