Doha: Qatar's coach Felix Sanchez said that defensive errors, problems in transition, and not starting the match well are the main factors behind his side's 2-0 loss to Ecuador in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar opening match.
In the press conference, Sanchez underlined that the national team has a lot to offer in the next match.
Sanchez said that the national team was suffering from a lot of issues and it was difficult to return to the match, adding that the performance improved in the second half but the result didn't change.
Qatar can play better in its next match by correcting the mistakes in training and reaching the next match in the best way, Sanchez pointed out.
The coach denied that the adjustment of the formation and the style of play had affected the players, adding that the work done by the national team in the last period was sufficient to appear good, but the players were not at the level expected of them.
Hammam Al Amin, the Qatar national team defender, expressed his dissatisfaction with the performance shown by the national team.
The match was not easy, especially since it is the team's first World Cup participation, Al Amin said, adding the Ecuadorian national team is one of the strong teams.
Almoez Ali, Qatar's striker, underscored that the bad start of the game is the main reason behind the loss to Ecuador, pointing out that the players' mistakes led the match to lose 2-0 after the first half-hour.
Saad Al Sheeb, the goalkeeper of the Qatari national team, said that the national team did not start the match well, especially during the first half hour, adding that there are two remaining matches to fix the situation and perform at a high level.
