Doha: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was a cut-throat tournament for several coaches over their bad results.
Iran manager Carlos Queiroz was the first to lose his post after being eliminated from the group stage. The Portuguese announced his resignation following his side's 0-1 loss to the US in the last group stage fixture.
Ghana coach Otto Addo was also among the managerial casualties after failing to advance to the round of 16. They lost their last group stage match against Uruguay 1-2.
Commenting on the resignation, Addo said that he was planning for resignation following the World Cup in Qatar since he was appointed as assistant coach in October 2021.
Also among the resigned managers was Belgium's Roberto Martinez. The Red Devils, who claimed bronze in Russia 2018, headed into the tournament as one of the favorites. However, they suffered ignominy after an early exit forcing the Spaniard to announce his resignation.
Also with his side seeing an early trip home, Argentinian coach, Gerardo Martino resigned. Martino's men made a 2-1 victory over Saudi Arabia in their last group stage match, but it was not sufficient to go through the last-16 as they played out a 0-0 draw with Poland in their opener, followed by a 0-2 loss to Argentina.
Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal also announced that he left his post following his side's last-eight 3-4 penalty shootout loss against Argentina. Netherlands managed to recover from two goals down, including a last-ditch equalizer.
Tite of Brazil was the most important World Cup victim following his side's quarter-final 2-4 penalty shootout defeat from Croatia after both sides played out a 1-1 draw in 120 minutes.
